Back on the 23rd May, the #Melbourne launch of #TheSecretArtofPoisoning was supported by #SistersinCrime Australia with #crimewriter #DrLucySussex the launcher, and was held at #ReadingsStKilda and went very well. The book is now available in a number of Melbourne bookshops including Dymocks (Collins St & Richmond), Readings St Kilda, Avenue Bookstore Richmond, the Royal Historical Society of Victoria and the #OldMelbourneGaol. #MarthaNeedle is one subject for the current #WaywardWomen exhibition currently at the #OldTreasuryBuilding in Melbourne, and I was recently fortunate to speak to the curators on a quick trip to Melbourne. Also, this week I did another podcast on #MarthaNeedle with #JenniferKelly of the #HeraldSun, so that should be out shortly!
Speaking of old gaols, I did an #OldAdelaideGaol ghost tour I received as a birthday present this year and I thought I did see a ghost, my first ever - quite scary! Earlier the same day I had the pleasure of attending the anniversary of the memorial for #SirRossSmith at #StPetersCathedral, organised by the #EpicFlightCentenary. This was a wonderful day, with the most moving last post ever heard emanating throughout the cathedral. Afterwards my companion and I visted #NorthRdCemetary and the #Smith family's gravesites, along with that of #HarryButler. As we were at Harry's grave, we heard a loud knocking - the nearby chapel door rattling in the wind. My companion joked that someone was trying to get out!
Speaking of #HarryButler, in the last few months #LesParsons and I finalised our book #TheRedDevil on #pioneeraviator #CaptainHarryButler AFC, which will be published by #WakefieldPress. We will have two launches of this book, one on the evening of 3rd August 2019 at the #MinlatonTownHall, part of the 100th anniversary weekend celebrations of Harry's historic crossing from Adelaide to Minlaton with 4000 postcards, the first #airmail over water in the southern hemisphere. History Professor #PeterMonteath will officially launch the book, and journalist and author #LainieAnderson, #EpicFlightCentenary ambassador will MC the event. More details of the events can be found here. Les and myself will give a presentation on Harry Butler on the night as part of the launch. Anyone interested in attending should book in quickly for the accommodation and meals - the pub is already booked out for meals!
For those unable to travel to Minlaton, we will also launch the book at the #SouthAustralianAviationMuseum at 11am on Saturday the 17th August 2019 at #PortAdelaide. I will be at the second launch on hand to sign copies of our book (whilst Les will be away seafaring), which will be officially done by MP #DrSusanClose, local member for #PortAdelaide.
